Make Sure Your Car is Ready for Your Next Road Trip
When getting ready to hit the road for a long road trip, there are many things for you to remember. While you may have a checklist for yourself to pack enough clothes and to bring your toothbrush, you should also have a checklist for your car as well. The last thing that you would want to spoil a fun road trip is for something to go wrong on your car so make sure to do the following before you start your expedition.
Check Your Tires – Aside from just looking at them to make sure they’re not flat, there is more you can do when checking your tires to ensure a smooth road trip. Checking the tire pressure can tell you if you don’t have enough air in your tire by using a pressure gauge. Also, check the tread on your tires to make sure they aren’t worn down too much and can still gain enough traction. It also wouldn’t hurt to have a spare tire and a jack, just in case something unexpected happens that you couldn’t prepare for.
Check Your Oil and Fluids – It’s highly important to make sure that all the engine oil in your car is up to par for a long road trip. Engine oil keeps all the moving parts in the engine lubricated and helps prevent the engine from overheating. Without a sufficient amount of engine oil in your car, it won’t only cause major problems for your road trip, but for your car in general. Also, there are a lot of various fluids that keep your car running smoothly on a day-to-day basis. Transmission fluid and anti-freeze are among the most vital to keeping your car safe and should be checked regularly.
Check Your Battery – Make sure that your battery is strong enough to endure the elements during your road trip. Be sure that the terminals on the battery are clean which will help confirm that the battery is in good enough shape to get you through the trip.
Check Your Air Filter – If you haven’t changed your air filter in a while, now may be a good time to do so before you embark on your adventure. A dirty air filter not only decreases a car’s performance on the road but it can ruin your car engine, making it essential to check it before your road trip.
Check Your Lights, Mirrors, and Windshield Wipers – Make sure that all of the lights on your car are operating properly and that your mirrors and windshield wipers are functional for your trip.
